When Peace Doesn't Feel Peaceful

Episode 64
When You’re Used to Chaos, Calm Can Feel Like Something’s Missing.
You spent years wishing things would just calm down.
You wanted less drama. Less stress. Less uncertainty. You wanted to finally feel safe, settled, and at peace.
So… why does peace sometimes feel so damn uncomfortable when you finally get it?
In this episode of Jotindi: Journey to the Inner Divine, host Mariah Aurora explores what can happen when you've spent so much time living with chaos, uncertainty, or constant activation that intensity begins to feel normal—and quiet starts to feel a whole lot like boredom.
I know this one personally.
There was a time in my life when a phone notification could make my heart drop. I lived in a state of uncertainty that kept my body constantly activated, and even though I desperately wanted peace, I also became accustomed to the intensity.
But here's something I've learned since then:
Healing doesn't require you to become someone who doesn't crave intensity.
Maybe you love adventure. Novelty. Competition. Challenge. Travel. Creativity. Big goals.
Dancing until 2 a.m. Maybe sitting peacefully on your couch every Saturday for the rest of your life sounds less like enlightenment and more like your own personal hell.
That's okay.
The question isn't necessarily, “Why can't I just be satisfied with peace?”
A better question might be:
What am I actually craving—and how can I give myself that without recreating the things that hurt me?
In this episode, we're exploring the surprisingly blurry line between peace and boredom, why we may unconsciously create problems when life gets too quiet, and what happens when we've learned to associate chaos with excitement, purpose, love, productivity, or simply feeling alive.
We'll also talk about the meanings we assign to stillness.
Does nothing happening mean you're wasting your life?
Does a stable relationship mean you've lost the spark?
Does rest mean you're lazy?
Does feeling restless mean something about your life needs to change?
Or… do you just need to go do something interesting?
Because boredom isn't a moral failure, and wanting stimulation doesn't mean you're doing healing wrong.
Sometimes the deeper work is learning to sit with the discomfort long enough to ask what's actually underneath it.
Am I lonely?
Understimulated?
Missing creativity?
Craving connection?
Do I need a challenge?
Do I need something to look forward to?
Or am I so accustomed to solving problems that I don't quite know who I am when there's nothing left to fix?
Peace was never supposed to mean a life where nothing happens.
You can build a life that's safe and exciting. Stable and adventurous. Peaceful and deeply stimulating.
You can have somewhere soft to land and still go out into the world and do wild shit.
Because maybe healing isn't learning to need less from life.
Maybe it's learning how to give yourself what you need without recreating the things that hurt you.
